This new series, Manuscripts, 2005-6, gouache with transfer on paper, 15" x 11" is on-going. I started them while in Venice and they have been developing since. There are smaller works as well as these. They continue the same thread as in my oils: dislocations and multiple layers of knowing come together for moments when they enchord and stop time while implying it and change. Hard to explain. Just look and forget all the language.

Ink on rag, Paul Cummins once said that he thought the best in American drawing was done in ink. It is certainly close to painting in that it is liquid and without the resistance of pencil, so more seductive and also more elusive. These are from a series of drawings done over a period of days. Each is 11 1/2" x 9".

Here is an in-progess detail of a gouache on vellum. The paint sits on this and the paper becomes a thing unto itself, curling and moving in response, I like to imagine, to the image it is holding. I'll post the completed one soon.
